Our Story
Likukwen is a contemporary womenswear brand that offers endless possibilities by creating bold, affordable, functional and comfortable made to measure pieces for any occasion.
Founded by Lilian Likukwen Adie in January 2017.
Growing up in a creative household with the designer’s late mother as a seamstress, she acquired a number of skills like hand stitching, cutting miniature dresses on cardboards and designing at a young age.
She started her journey in the fashion industry as a head tailor for a clothing brand and transitioned into building her brand.
With this knowledge and experience, Likukwen has continued creating versatile pieces that represents the liveliness and vibrance of the African culture.
In 2021, she took a break to balance work life, family and raising her kids while repositioning and rebranding. During this break she decided to rename her brand from “BAETHEBRAND” to “LIKUKWEN” which is her native name, meaning – Let’s stay in peace.
Likukwen strongly promotes slow fashion and all stashes are used for various handmade accessories and home decor like scarves and scrunchies.
LIKUKWEN relaunched in 2023 and has created timeless statement pieces, infusing style with functionality in a way that speaks to the lifestyle of the contemporary woman.
Likukwen has connected with women in over 18 countries through worldwide shipping, helping her create an inclusive and international community.

Meet Lilian Adie — a passionate designer and cultural storyteller on a mission to redefine Afrocentric fashion. Born into a creative household and nurtured by the loving hands of her late mother—a seamstress—Lilian Likukwen Adie was destined to create. From hand-stitching miniature dresses on cardboard to sketching her earliest designs, her passion was sewn into her life from the start.
Lilian began her professional journey as a head tailor for an established brand, where she refined her skills and deepened her understanding of craftsmanship. In 2017, she took a bold step forward—channeling her heritage, heart, and hustle into what we now celebrate as LIKUKWEN.
Inspired by the vibrant essence of African culture and modern femininity, Lilian creates bold and functional designs with a personal touch. In 2021, she rebranded from BAETHEBRAND to LIKUKWEN — her native name meaning “Let’s stay in peace” — honoring her roots and vision.
In 2023, Lilian relaunched LIKUKWEN with a fresh identity, embracing slow fashion and sustainability by turning fabric leftovers into meaningful accessories and home décor.
